Verra, the organization responsible for managing the Verified Carbon Standard (VCS), is conducting a review of the use of the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) methodology AMS-III.AU in the VCS Program. As part of the review process, Verra has identified quality issues with the validations and verifications conducted by certain validation/verification bodies. All registered and listed VCS projects applying the CDM methodology have been placed on hold while Verra conducts a quality control review of all registered projects. Projects that have listed specific validation/verification bodies will remain on hold until the quality review process is complete. Projects applying the CDM methodology that have already requested listing prior to February 3, 2023, may proceed with registration and must complete validation before September 20, 2023, and address any findings resulting from Verra’s full review of the registration request. Verra is also scoping a new rice-specific methodology or module under VM0042 Methodology for Improved Land Management that may replace the CDM methodology AMS-III.AU in the VCS Program. However, Verra will not approve any new VCS project listing requests using the CDM methodology AMS-III.AU.
