A new report, the “2023 3PL Gold Standard™ Report”, has found that many brands are seeking new requirements from their third-party logistics (3PL) providers. Conducted by Manifest, the report surveyed 500 people working at consumer brands and found that 30% of brands would not recommend their 3PL to others. It also discovered that the most common reason for companies to terminate their 3PL relationship was that their 3PL was unable to meet their growing needs. Furthermore, 61% of brands abandoned their 3PL because it only offered remote-based support. The main reasons for brands seeking out new 3PL partnerships were a tie between shipping rates and sustainable packaging. Other important reasons included the ability to visit the warehouse in-person (63%) and to build rapport with their new partner in person (63%). The report, which recommends brands use it as a checklist when selecting a new 3PL provider, includes contributions from key players in the logistics space. Sustainable Ecommerce Fulfillment provider, Manifest, also notes that the results highlight how brands who move to a new provider often do so to achieve price parity while sourcing better sustainable, communication and service-level agreement commitments.
