Highgate, a leading real estate and hospitality management company, has released its environmental, social and governance (ESG) report, which details its successful sustainability performance to-date and its strategies for reducing the environmental impact of its hotels. Highgate has set goals to expand numerous initiatives highlighted in the report, including increasing its number of carbon-neutral hotels, onsite solar systems, biodiversity projects, third-party eco-certified hotels, and electric vehicle charging station installations. It also annually tracks and reports carbon, energy, water, and waste performance data to monitor and share progress. The company reduced its total greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 21.8% and cut energy use by over 170,000 megawatt-hours from 2019 to 2021.
As a member of the Clean Energy Buyers Association, Highgate became the first hospitality company to sign the association’s Commercial Real Estate Principles, which supports the decarbonisation of commercial buildings through energy optimisation and renewable energy procurement. Highgate has also made a large-scale investment in Green-e certified renewable energy certificates that allowed over 200 hotels in its portfolio to be powered by 100% renewable energy.
Highgate is working on improving water management, preventing food waste, reducing landfill waste and bolstering recycling, eliminating single-use plastics, responsible sourcing, supporting biodiversity projects, and implementing green construction and design practices.
Highgate maintains corporate offices in London, New York, Dallas, Miami, Seattle, and Waikiki, with over $20 billion of assets under management, a 30-year track record as an investment manager and developer for REITs, private equity firms, sovereign wealth funds, high net worth individuals, and other institutional investors.
