Billionaire Bill Gates has been accused of being a “hypocrite” for using a private jet while campaigning for technologies to help fight climate change. In an interview with the BBC, Gates said that he offset his family’s carbon footprint by funding Climeworks and spending billions on climate innovation. He also said that rich countries should be more generous in helping poorer countries that are suffering the most from climate change. Gates believes that technological and behavioral changes are necessary to combat climate change, but that it is unrealistic to expect society to completely change human desires. He believes that the only way to make a real difference is to make sure that people are aware of the consequences of their actions and that they are provided with the necessary resources to make the right decisions.
