Italian energy storage company Energy Dome has raised $44m in Series B funding to expand its CO2 Battery technology, which stores and uses carbon dioxide to produce dispatchable renewable energy. The firm claims its technology reduces carbon emissions and is already operational at a multi-megawatt scale, with the ability to store just under 9 GWh of energy globally. Energy Dome’s patented solution for energy storage and power grid decarbonisation is one of several firms pioneering energy storage that will be an important part of helping the world transition from fossil fuels to renewables. The firm plans to use the funding to expand its operations and commercialise its CO2 Battery design in Europe, the US, Australia and India. It also plans to build two standard 20 MW-200 MWh frames which will be commercially operational by the end of 2024.
